Southern Bypass (previously known as Nixon road Phase 2) involves the construction of a new 70kmph two-lane carriageway approximately 850m in length, through Aviation Golf Course at Auckland Airport. It provides an interim bypass route for George Bolt Memorial Drive and will eventually be upgraded with additional lanes in each direction, ultimately linking SH20A and SH20B.
The project was procured via the Horizontal Infrastructure Term Agreement, which is a ‘framework agreement’ which Cuesko helped establish between Auckland Airport and Fulton Hogan.
Cuesko provided full quantity surveying and cost management consultancy services throughout the design, procurement and construction phases.
The project involved significant challenges to avoid programme delays. Fundamental design changes during both the design, procurement and early construction phases occurred. This posed challenges during procurement, necessitating a 2-stage tender process, with the formation of several ‘Early works’ packages, before the design was finalised and a Contract Price could be agreed with the main-contractor.
