James Liston Hostel Alterations Project is a redevelopment of an existing structure which included partial demolition, asbestos removal, and construction of a revitalised hostel to meet the requirements of the facility and bring the facility into this decade.
The project was comprised of a 3 level 1200m2, 51no. single bedroom building intended to help homeless and mentally unstable people to have a place to sleep and eat in the mornings and evenings. It provides warm, safe accommodation to these people for up to six months along with wrap around social services. In addition, office space, kitchen, community, chapel and training facilities were also built on site.
Cuesko’s role on the project was to provide quantity surveying services which included:
- Providing cost estimates and budgeting advice
- Procurement advice and tender review
- Drafting construction contract
- Issuing Payment Recommendations
- Evaluate and agreeing variations.
The challenges on the project included:
- Strict budget
- Management of multiple stake holders, and trust funding.
- Contamination discovered on site.
- Overland flow path.
